American Board of Sleep Medicine Junior Faculty Research Award

The American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF) is pleased to announce the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) Junior Faculty Research Award. Physicians (MD or DO) with faculty appointments who have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved sleep medicine fellowships are eligible to apply for the ABSM Junior Faculty Research Award. The awards will include research expenses such as salary support, supplies and overhead for the awardee.

Through this award, the ASMF aims to assist new faculty in the development of a career in academic sleep medicine. The ASMF will award a grant of $50,000 spread over two years to one applicant per year. The host institution must not have received funding from the ASMF within two years of the application, including Career Development Awards, Physician Scientist Training Awards, Strategic Research Grant Awards and the ABSM Junior Faculty Research Awards. The award recipients will be recognized at SLEEP 2009.

A grant review committee appointed by the ASMF Executive Board will evaluate the proposals to determine the award recipients. Review will be based on the quality of the scientific proposal, the potential contribution of this work to the academic development of the institution, as well as to the development of the applicant’s academic career in sleep medicine, and the degree of institutional material support of the applicant’s research career development in sleep that is evident in the application.

Click here to download the application. Candidates must complete the application process before October 1, 2008. The final decision on the ABSM Junior Faculty Research awardees will be made by January 31, 2009.
